A message from Council Member Pete Meitzner...

Recently, I attended the groundbreaking for a new airport hangar at Midwest Corporate Aviation(MCA) at Jabara Airport. This new hangar will be the 10th hangar for MCA and will also be their largest. At 18,000sf, Hanger 10 will have a 115' wide by 28' high door, which will allow them to accommodate all general aviation and business aircraft. In addition, it will include a 15,000sf concrete apron and an approach to the taxiway.

MCA has been in business at Jabara for 44 years. The last 34 years they have been a full-service Fixed Base Operation (FBO); open 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. They have been voted to the "Top FBO's in America" list by Aviation International News for nine consecutive years and the #1 FBO in Kansas.

In the early 1970's, founder, Marvin Autry, along with Dr. Daniel K. Roberts, began transporting critically-ill mothers and babies to Wichita for vitally needed care. This was the first dedicated fixed-wing air ambulance program in the United States.   In 1976, Wesley Hospital embraced the idea and the LifeWATCH program was born. They are directly responsible for saving the lives of hundreds of mothers and babies and trauma patients. Today, every state in the US has air ambulance service available.

MCA built their first three hangars in 1983. As business grew, they added six more. Hangar 10 will only improve the region's finest FBO, by providing a wide range of corporate and public services for the general aviation and aircraft industry. The success of MCA has allowed them to give back to our community in so many ways by hosting dozens of Wichita Chamber and numerous non-profit charity events.

Although Marvin Autry passed away almost two years ago, his wife, Barbara, continues to grow the company and invest in Wichita. Congratulations, Barbara! Thank you for everything that MCA has done for our City. I know Marvin would be so proud.

Have a good weekend!
